Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal announced on Sunday that his party would contest the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections alone, ruling out any alliance. Dismissing speculation about a possible partnership with the Congress, Kejriwal said, “There will be no alliance in Delhi (for assembly elections).” He emphasized AAP’s determination to secure a third consecutive term in the capital without external support.

The announcement came during a press conference in New Delhi, where Kejriwal also criticized the BJP for the deteriorating law and order situation in the city. Referring to a recent attack during his padyatra in the Greater Kailash area, he said, “I had this expectation that Amit Shah would take some action after I raised the issue (law and order)… But, instead of that, I was attacked during my padyatra. Liquid was thrown at me—it was harmless, but it could have been harmful.”

Kejriwal elaborated on the incident, explaining that the attacker had attempted to harm him with spirit and a matchbox. Delhi Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj, who witnessed the event, confirmed the assailant’s intent, saying, “We could smell the spirit. The man was carrying spirit in one hand and a matchbox in the other.”

Kejriwal also defended AAP MLA Naresh Balyan, who was recently arrested, stating that he was a victim of gang threats and had filed multiple complaints about extortion attempts. The escalating tensions and attacks come as Kejriwal ramps up his public engagement efforts ahead of the elections, showcasing the intense political atmosphere in the national capital.
