Delhi: In a major gubernatorial reshuffle, President Droupadi Murmu announced the appointment of two new Governors and reassigned three others, according to a communiqué from Rashtrapati Bhavan. The reshuffle, which took place on Tuesday, marks significant changes in key states, including Bihar, Kerala, Manipur, Odisha, and Mizoram.
Arif Mohammad Khan, who previously served as the Governor of Kerala, has been appointed as the Governor of Bihar. He takes over from Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, who has been named the new Governor of Kerala.
In a move aimed at strengthening administrative oversight in Manipur, a state grappling with ongoing ethnic unrest, former Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla has been appointed as the Governor of the state.
Meanwhile, former Army Chief General Vijay Kumar Singh has been designated as the Governor of Mizoram. His military expertise is expected to bring a new perspective to the northeastern state.
The reshuffle also included changes in Odisha, where the resignation of Governor Raghubar Das was accepted by the President. Hari Babu Kambhampati, who previously held the role of Mizoram Governor, has been appointed as the new Governor of Odisha.
The Rashtrapati Bhavan communiqué confirmed that these appointments will come into effect as soon as the respective appointees assume charge of their new offices.
