Arab League (AL) Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul-Gheit and several regional powers have expressed strong condemnation for the deadly Israeli airstrike on the Jabalia refugee camp in the northern Gaza Strip. The attack has prompted calls for international intervention and accountability.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, AL Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul-Gheit decried the Israeli airstrike as “a new crime” in Gaza and urged the international community to break its silence on the matter. The gravity of the situation in Gaza has raised concerns about the ongoing conflict.
Egypt, a neighboring country, through its Foreign Ministry, also strongly denounced the Israeli attack, describing it as a “flagrant violation of international laws.” This condemnation underscores the growing regional concern regarding the situation.
Jordan’s Foreign Ministry joined in the condemnation, holding Israel accountable for the dangerous escalation. Jordan expressed deep concern about Israel’s increasing tension in the West Bank and the reported rise in attacks on Palestinian civilians. The statement from Jordan called upon the international community to take responsibility, put an end to the ongoing conflict, and provide international protection for the Palestinian population.
The Israeli airstrike targeted the densely populated Jabalia refugee camp, resulting in a tragic loss of life and significant injuries. According to the Gaza-based Health Ministry, the attack claimed the lives of over 50 individuals, injured around 150 others, and left “dozens” buried under the rubble. The incident has further intensified the ongoing regional tensions and calls for a swift response to address the situation.
