New Delhi: In a meaningful step toward building sustainable and empowered communities in Northeast India, Apraava Energy, one of India’s leading integrated energy solutions providers, has partnered with the SELCO Foundation to install solar-powered systems across community, health, and education facilities in Assam and Nagaland.

These interventions aim to provide reliable and sustainable energy access to underserved regions, directly impacting more than 21,000 lives. The installations are expected to save approximately 57 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually, equivalent to planting about 2,580 trees every year.

Empowering Communities in Assam

In Assam’s Chirang district, a 27.5 kW solar-powered community facility is enabling holistic local development. The centre integrates health, livelihood, and education services — including a weaving unit that empowers women artisans with sustainable income, mental health and physiotherapy clinics, and a legal aid centre supporting women facing domestic abuse.

A dedicated youth hub hosts training and cultural programmes for over 800 young people, along with regular sports activities. Capacity-building sessions for farmers, women entrepreneurs, and local NGOs further strengthen the community fabric. Additionally, over 700 children from 17 forest-based learning centres now have access to clean drinking water and sanitation through solar-powered systems.

Advancing Access in Nagaland

In Nagaland, the villages of Jhakama and Zhadima in Kohima district now benefit from 22.32 kW of solar installations and inverter systems powering schools, health centres, and community spaces. These efforts have enhanced learning conditions for over 1,000 students from remote areas, modernised five rural schools with digital learning tools, and improved community safety through solar-powered streetlights.

Leadership Speak

“Building sustainable communities lies at the core of our CSR strategy. In the Northeast, we’ve deepened our engagement to address both immediate and long-term community needs. This initiative exemplifies holistic development — uplifting every section of society sustainably. As we expand our business footprint in the region, we remain committed to transforming more lives through such interventions,”
— Dr Priyesh Modi, Head – CSR, Apraava Energy

Extending Impact Beyond Energy

As part of its broader community investment initiatives, Apraava’s Agri-SHE programme in Assam is training over 3,000 women entrepreneurs in agriculture and livestock-based livelihoods. In collaboration with the Akshaya Patra Foundation, Apraava has also established a centralised mid-day meal kitchen in Jorhat, serving about 11,000 nutritious meals daily to school children.

The company further supports 15 grassroots women changemakers in Assam working toward uplifting disadvantaged communities.

Apraava Energy currently operates transmission assets across Assam, Nagaland, and Manipur, and has also entered the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) sector with a smart-meter project in Assam — the first in India to achieve ‘Go-Live’ status under the Government of India’s Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS).
