Mumbai: Shiv Sena leader and Maharashtra Cabinet Minister Anil Parab on Wednesday refuted allegations levelled against him by suspended Mumbai police officer Sachin Waze in a letter given to National Investigation Agency (NIA).

Addressing a press conference in Mumbai, Parab, said the allegations levelled by Waze are “baseless” and said that he was prepared to face an inquiry.

Parab who is the transport minister in the Uddhav Thackeray-led government however alleged that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has conspired this to malign the image of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government.

Referring to Waze’s letter given to NIA, Parab said, he alleged,” I had asked him to extort Rs. 50 crores from Saifee Burhani Upliftment Trust (SBUT) in a case about its trustees in June and August last year”.

Claiming that he was not aware of an inquiry of SBUT, he said, “If I had ordered him (Waze) to extort money in June-August then why did not complain about it till now?”

Parab also refuted the second allegation levelled by Waze wherein he said, that the transport minister had asked him to collect Rs. 2 crores each from as many as 50 contractors of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

“I do not know any contractor from the BMC. I am a devout follower of late Shiv Sena supremo Balasaheb Thackeray. I swear by Balasaheb Thackeray and my two daughters. I am ready to face any inquiry”, he said.

Parab said, apart from his name, former state home minister Anil Deshmukh and a close aide of Ajit Pawar has been named in the letter by Waze.

The Sena leader said former Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh in his letter against Anil Deshmukh had not mentioned any such allegation against him.

Blaming the BJP, Parab said, the leaders from the saffron party were saying that the third minister from the Maharashtra government was on his way out.

“I want to tell people of the state that allegations levelled against me are false in nature and they have made these allegations to malign my image and also the image of the chief minister and the government”, he added.
