An AK-47 assault rifle, cache of ammunition recovered in Kupwara woods

Srinagar: In a joint operation the Jammu and Kashmir Police (J&K Police), the Indian Army and the Border Security Force (BSF) have recovered a “damaged” AK-47 assault rifle, huge quantities of other arms and ammunition, besides three wireless sets from a forested area in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, officials disclosed on Wednesday.

They said based on specific information, J&K Police, Indian Army’s 162 TA and BSF launched a joint operation in the forest area of Reshigund Check in the Kralpora area. During searches, a police official told GNS that an AK-47 Rifle (Damaged) was recovered.

Besides this, Four Magazines, 720 rounds, three wireless sets, five wireless set antennas, eight detonators besides three Chines grenades and a compass were also recovered from the area. The official said a case has been registered and further investigations taken up.

The huge arms haul coincides with the heightened militant activity in the Kashmir valley. The Jammu and Kashmir Police, the Indian Army and the Border Security Force (BSF) have stepped up their anti-terror operations to flush out militants and eliminate them. The armed forces have stepped up their operations after the recent terror attacks against minority communities in the Kashmir valley.
