A group of actor Ajith Kumar’s fans has held meetings across several districts of Tamil Nadu in an attempt to launch a political outfit in his name and project him as a potential chief ministerial candidate for the 2031 Assembly elections.
The gatherings reportedly saw supporters put up banners featuring Ajith, perform rituals and unveil a flag as part of their proposed political organisation. The group also announced a car as the proposed election symbol and outlined some of its political positions, including opposition to the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET).
However, the political activity has taken place without Ajith Kumar’s involvement or approval. People close to the actor have made it clear that he has no association with the proposed party or the meetings being conducted in his name.
Ajith’s team says actor has no role in political move
Representatives and sources close to Ajith said the actor was not aware of the gatherings and had not authorised his name, photograph or other personal imagery to be used for political purposes.
The development is particularly significant because Ajith has maintained a public distance from electoral politics. He has previously made his position clear about not entering politics or supporting political organisations.
The actor’s team has also reportedly objected to the unauthorised use of his image and visuals associated with his racing career in connection with the political campaign.
Fans announce flag and proposed election symbol
The supporters involved in the initiative went ahead with activities normally associated with the formation of a political organisation. Banners were displayed in different parts of Tamil Nadu, while supporters conducted rituals and introduced a flag.
A car was also projected as the proposed election symbol of the group. Images connected with Ajith’s racing career were used during the activities, despite the actor not being associated with the political initiative.
The supporters have presented Ajith as their preferred candidate for chief minister in the 2031 Tamil Nadu Assembly election, several years before the state is due to vote.
Group takes stand against NEET
Apart from projecting Ajith as a future political leader, the group has also begun expressing views on political and social issues.
One of the positions announced by the supporters is opposition to NEET, the entrance examination used for admission to medical courses across India.
However, these positions cannot be treated as Ajith Kumar’s political views because the actor has not endorsed the proposed organisation or authorised the campaign.
Ajith has stayed away from electoral politics
Ajith Kumar has repeatedly maintained a distance from political parties and electoral activity. His public statements in the past have indicated that he does not want his name or fan clubs to be used to support political organisations.
The latest incident therefore appears to be an initiative undertaken independently by a section of his supporters rather than a political launch by the actor himself.
The actor’s team’s clarification is expected to prevent confusion among fans and the public over whether Ajith has decided to enter Tamil Nadu politics ahead of the 2031 Assembly election.
