Shiv Sena’s Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray Group leader and Maha Vikas Aghadi’s Lok Sabha candidate from Northwest Mumbai, Amol Gajanan Kirtikar, faces scrutiny as the Enforcement Directorate (ED) summons him for the second time. The summons, issued in connection with alleged malpractices in khichdi distribution during the Corona era, underscores growing concerns amidst election fervor.
Kirtikar’s scheduled appearance before the ED on April 8 marks the latest development in a series of investigations into the purported khichdi scam. Earlier, Yuva Sena official Suraj Chavan’s arrest in the same case intensified the spotlight on alleged irregularities. This second summons to Kirtikar follows his absence during the previous inquiry, attributed to a pre-scheduled event.
Embarking on his political journey through Aditya Thackeray’s Yuva Sena, Kirtikar now holds a prominent position within the Thackeray group, securing the party’s nomination for Lok Sabha from Northwest Mumbai. However, ED’s scrutiny casts a shadow over his candidacy, adding to the challenges faced by the Thackeray group amidst the electoral season.
Amidst the clamor of Lok Sabha elections, the ED’s actions reverberate nationwide, drawing scrutiny from opposition parties. The arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and now Kirtikar’s summons intensify political tensions, amplifying the stakes of the electoral battleground.
The alleged khichdi scam, emerging amidst discussions of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation’s body bag scandal during the pandemic, adds another layer of controversy. With accusations of a 100 crore COVID scam surfacing, investigations delve into the allocation of contracts to 52 companies for khichdi distribution to migrant workers. While the municipality claims the distribution of 4 crore khichdi packets, suspicions of malfeasance prompt a thorough investigation into the matter.
