In a press interaction on Tuesday, Home Minister Amit Shah addressed questions regarding allegations made by Sunita Kejriwal, the wife of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, accusing the BJP of plotting to harm her husband while he is in jail.

A journalist brought up the accusations leveled by senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh, who claimed that Amit Shah “regularly prays for his death,” alongside Sunita Kejriwal’s assertion that the BJP was orchestrating a threat to the Delhi CM’s life within Tihar jail.

Shah responded by highlighting the jurisdiction of the Tihar or Delhi jail, stating that it falls under the administration of Kejriwal’s own Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government. He emphasized that if there were genuine concerns about Kejriwal’s safety, the responsibility lies with AAP to address them.

Furthermore, Shah expressed readiness to take action if Sunita Kejriwal provides written evidence regarding the alleged threat to her husband’s life. He asserted his commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens, regardless of political affiliations.

The backdrop to these allegations stems from Sunita Kejriwal’s remarks at the “Ulgulan Nyay Rally,” where she claimed that the BJP government aimed to harm Arvind Kejriwal. She raised concerns about the lack of insulin supplies for Kejriwal in Tihar Jail, where he has been detained since April 1 in connection with the Delhi liquor scam case.

Kejriwal’s incarceration has been a contentious issue, with the AAP expressing apprehension over the absence of a diabetes specialist in the jail to attend to the CM’s medical needs. In response, the BJP criticized the AAP, accusing them of exploiting the situation for political gain.

Arvind Kejriwal’s imprisonment, which has now lasted nearly a month, follows his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the Delhi liquor scam case. Despite assertions of innocence from the AAP camp, the Supreme Court rejected Kejriwal’s bail plea, citing substantial evidence against him in the liquor policy case.
