Amit Shah Blames Congress for Pakistan and Weak Anti-Terror Stance in Fiery Lok Sabha Speech

New Delhi: In a hard-hitting address to the Lok Sabha, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday held Congress squarely responsible for the rise of Pakistan and accused the party of compromising India’s fight against terrorism for vote bank politics. Linking historical decisions to present-day threats, Shah launched a scathing attack on the Opposition, particularly targeting Rahul Gandhi and the Congress leadership.

“The root of all terrorism is Pakistan — and Pakistan is Congress’s mistake,” Shah declared in the House. “Had the Congress not agreed to partition, Pakistan would never have existed.”

Referring to the early 2000s, Shah highlighted the efforts of the Atal Bihari Vajpayee-led NDA government to curb terrorism through the introduction of the Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA). “In 2002, we introduced POTA to eliminate terrorism. But Congress opposed it. We lacked a majority in the Rajya Sabha, so it couldn’t pass there. We were forced to go through a joint session of Parliament,” he said.

Calling POTA a direct legal weapon against terrorists, Shah questioned the Congress party’s motives for resisting it. “Why would anyone oppose a law meant for punishing terrorists? Who were they trying to protect? Was it all for their vote bank?” he asked, drawing strong reactions from the Opposition benches.

The Home Minister further accused the UPA government of reversing the nation’s counter-terror progress. “In 2004, when the Manmohan Singh-Sonia Gandhi government came to power, the very first thing they did was scrap POTA. For whose benefit was this done?” he said.

Shah directly challenged Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to clarify his party’s stand on terrorism. “Rahul Gandhi should rise in this House and tell the nation: What has Congress done to fight terrorism? When will they stop shielding those who attack India?” he asked.
