Mumbai: Continuous heavy rainfall in Mumbai prompted immediate action from the city administration, with State Minister Ashish Shelar assuring citizens that all necessary measures were being taken to ensure public safety.
Speaking about the ongoing situation, Shelar said, “I have taken complete information from all the Additional Commissioners and the head of Disaster Management. We have also provided information about the issues that came to my attention after reviewing the entire incident. As per the instructions of the Chief Minister, and following discussions with the Commissioner in Mumbai, all authorities have been informed to ensure the safe return home of all the children who have gone to school. While holiday has been declared for the afternoon session, schools and colleges… Wherever there is waterlogging, the pumps have been activated, and arrangements are being made to reduce water and resume work…”
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had declared a holiday for all schools and colleges operating in the afternoon session, prioritising the safety of students. Various low-lying areas across the city reported waterlogging, while traffic congestion worsened on several arterial routes.
Authorities also urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel and stay indoors until conditions improved.
