UP: Samajwadi Party (SP) Chief Akhilesh Yadav took a sharp dig at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday amid the ongoing excavation work in Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal district, calling it a futile exercise that would ultimately harm the BJP’s political standing.
Yadav’s comments came after the discovery of a 400-square-meter stepwell, or ‘baoli’, in the Chandausi area of Sambhal. The excavation was carried out by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), which has been unearthing historical structures in the region.
“The BJP is continuing to search for things like this,” Yadav said, “and one day, by digging and digging, they will end up digging their own government.” His statement reflected his criticism of the BJP, suggesting that their focus on trivial matters would backfire and ultimately erode their political power.
District Magistrate Rajendra Pensiya confirmed the discovery of the stepwell on Sunday, which was described as a significant archaeological find in the region. The ASI’s excavation was part of its ongoing work to uncover historical sites in Uttar Pradesh.
Yadav’s statement is the latest in a series of jabs aimed at the BJP-led state government. His comments also come amid a broader political discourse in the state, where the SP has been critical of the ruling party’s governance on various fronts.
The Sambhal excavation, which has garnered attention for its historical significance, has now become the subject of a political debate, with Akhilesh Yadav accusing the BJP of diverting attention away from key issues impacting the people of Uttar Pradesh. The political tension is expected to escalate as the state heads toward upcoming elections.
