Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has blamed mismanagement for the tragic stampede at Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj, which led to several casualties. Expressing deep sorrow over the incident, Yadav urged the government to take immediate action and ensure better arrangements to prevent further mishaps.
In a post on X, Yadav wrote, “The news of casualties of devotees in an accident caused by mismanagement in Maha Kumbh is extremely sad.” He outlined several urgent measures for the government, including:
- Airlifting seriously injured victims to the best available hospitals for immediate treatment.
- Identifying the deceased, handing over their bodies to their families, and arranging for their transportation.
- Reuniting devotees who got separated in the chaos.
- Enhancing surveillance and crowd management with the help of helicopters.
The SP chief also stressed the importance of continuing the traditional Shahi Snan of Mauni Amavasya while ensuring safety and parallel relief efforts.
“We appeal to devotees to exercise restraint and patience during this difficult time and complete their pilgrimage peacefully. The government must learn from today’s incident and make additional arrangements for the accommodation, food, water, and other essential facilities for devotees,” he added, wishing a speedy recovery to the injured.
The Samajwadi Party, in a separate post on X, described the stampede as “heartbreaking” and urged the Uttar Pradesh government to expedite rescue and relief operations.
The incident has raised serious concerns over the administration’s preparedness, especially given the massive influx of pilgrims at the Maha Kumbh. With more key bathing days ahead, opposition parties are demanding enhanced safety measures to prevent further tragedies.
