Asaduddin Owaisi, the chief of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) and Member of Parliament from Hyderabad, has publicly called upon Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) to spearhead the formation of a ‘third front’ comprising various political parties that are not part of the INDIA opposition alliance.

Owaisi stated, “There is a political vacuum which will be filled if KCR takes the lead. The INDIA alliance is not being able to fill this vacuum,” in an interview with news agency ANI.

When asked about not receiving an invitation to join the INDIA alliance, Owaisi shrugged it off, stating, “BSP chief Mayawati, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, and several parties from Northeast and Maharashtra are also not members of this alliance.”

This isn’t the first instance of Owaisi proposing the formation of a third front with KCR as its leader. Just last month, he made a similar suggestion, highlighting the willingness of numerous political parties and leaders across the country to participate if K Chandrasekhar Rao assumes the leadership role.

Earlier, AIMIM party leader Waris Pathan had expressed frustration with the “so-called” secular parties within the INDIA bloc, accusing them of treating AIMIM as “political untouchables.” He cited instances of leaders who had previously been associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) now aligning with the opposition, and mentioned the divisive rhetoric between some opposition parties during the Gujarat Assembly elections. Pathan emphasized AIMIM’s efforts to combat the BJP in the upcoming 2024 elections, while lamenting that other opposition parties were seemingly sidelining Asaduddin Owaisi and his party.
