As Delhi gears up for the upcoming Assembly elections, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has once again strengthened his bond with the city’s auto-rickshaw drivers. On Tuesday, Kejriwal announced that he would have lunch at the residence of an auto driver, highlighting the deep and personal relationship he shares with the community.

“My relationship with the auto driver brothers is very close to my heart. Yesterday I invited them to my house for tea and talked to them a lot. One brother even invited me to have food at his residence. Today afternoon I am going to his house for lunch. This relationship with them started from Ramlila Maidan and is still as strong today,” Kejriwal shared on X (formerly Twitter).

The AAP chief also recalled the party’s early days, when he and former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia campaigned by pasting party posters on auto-rickshaws. Kejriwal posted an old photograph of himself and Sisodia engaged in this activity, reminiscing about their grassroots approach to building the party. “This is a very old picture. When we had just started the party. Manish and I used to paste posters on the back of every auto. Since then, auto drivers have always supported us,” he said.

In his post, Kejriwal also mentioned that he had invited many auto drivers to his house for tea. “I have a very old relationship with the auto drivers,” he wrote, underscoring the continued support and connection he has with the community.

The AAP leader’s gesture comes as part of his campaign strategy, aiming to reconnect with the city’s working-class voters ahead of the elections. The auto-rickshaw drivers have long been a key part of Kejriwal’s support base, and this personal outreach only strengthens his ties with them as the election season heats up.
