Shiv Sena, under the leadership of Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray, has made a decisive move by announcing its list of 17 candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. However, this announcement has stirred tensions within the Mahavikas Aghadi coalition, as the distribution of seats among alliance partners remains ambiguous.

The candidature of Chandrahar Patil in Sangli, declared by Thackeray for the Mahavikas Aghadi, has sparked discontent, particularly from senior Congress leader Balasaheb Thorat. Expressing dissatisfaction, Thorat emphasized the importance of adhering to coalition principles and urged Shiv Sena to reconsider its decision, especially concerning traditional Congress strongholds like Bhiwandi and Sangli.

Thorat stated, “Shiv Sena’s decision to contest the Sangli seat has left us displeased. They should have respected the coalition’s principles. We are still firm on our stance for Sangli, Bhiwandi, and Central Mumbai. It is painful for us to relinquish the Sangli seat, and we insist on its reconsideration.”

In addition to the intra-coalition tensions, Thorat addressed the role of Prakash Ambedkar, founder president of Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi. He emphasized the importance of Ambedkar’s support and urged for discussions to clarify his role in the electoral process, given the trust bestowed upon the coalition by the public.

Opposition leader Vijay Wadettiwar criticized Thackeray’s decision to announce candidates while coalition discussions were ongoing, labeling it a violation of coalition ethics. He called for Shiv Sena to honor the principles of the coalition and reconsider its actions.
