Islamabad: Authorities at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail have firmly denied widespread speculation about the deteriorating health of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan. Jail officials, backed by reports in Pakistani media, confirmed that Khan is “hale and hearty” and continues to receive full medical care and supervision inside the high-security facility, where he has been held since August 2023.

To streamline political interactions, jail officials have set a designated day for party leaders to meet him. PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja has submitted a list of visitors that includes Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, MNA Shahid Khattak, Provincial Minister Meena Khan, Shaukat Yousafzai, Imtiaz Ali Warraich, and Hafiz Farhat. The delegation is expected to hold internal discussions with Khan on party matters.

The renewed attention on Imran Khan’s condition follows growing unrest among PTI supporters and his family’s allegations of restricted access. Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan, had staged a sit-in at the Gorakhpur checkpost near Adiala Jail, accusing authorities of imposing solitary confinement and violating court-ordered visitation rights. She criticised what she termed “jungle law,” alleging mistreatment and intimidation tactics against protesters.

The prolonged sit-in caused hours-long traffic disruptions along Adiala Jail Road, blocking ambulances, school vans, and daily commuters. Tensions rose as parents worried about delayed schoolchildren, and vehicles remained stranded. The standoff eased only after police officials assured Aleema that meetings with Imran Khan would be arranged — including upcoming visits scheduled for next Tuesday — prompting her to call off the protest and disperse peacefully with supporters.
