Mumbai: A team of activists of Aarey fighting against the Metro car shed visited chief of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, Raj Thackeray on Monday regarding the ongoing ramp work for Metro there. The activists were taken by the P-South divisional head of the MNS Road and Administration wing, Ashish Patil on the request of Raj Thackeray, who wanted to know more about the Aarey movement. The Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi government has recently declared 600 acres of Aarey as a reserved forest.

The activists were joined by Asha Bhoye, a local tribal from Prajapurpada, whose farm at Aarey faces threat from Metro for construction of a ramp there. “Though there is a stay ordered by the chief minister on any work related to Metro at Aarey, the work on a ramp, needed to help the rakes to come from underground lines at Seepz to the overground Metro car shed at Aarey, continues. Bhoye needs help as she has to constantly fend off attempts for construction on her farm, “said Amrita Bhattacharjee, a part of the delegation.

“I stand for the rights of the indigenous people. The tribals cannot be forced into slum redevelopment flats with no compensation.  We met him in our individual capacity as we are open to any leader who is interested in helping us with the movement,” says Bhattacharjee.
