Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s health has become a focal point of concern since his arrest on March 21, as revealed by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and minister Atishi today. Atishi’s disclosure indicates that Kejriwal has shed 4.5 kg in weight during his incarceration, raising worries about his well-being.
In a morning post on social media platform X, Atishi highlighted Kejriwal’s condition, emphasizing his status as a “severe diabetic.” She expressed profound concern over the weight loss, attributing it to the relentless commitment of the Chief Minister despite his health challenges. Atishi also issued a stern warning, accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of jeopardizing Kejriwal’s health and invoking grave consequences if anything untoward happens to him.
Kejriwal’s arrest stemmed from a money laundering case linked to the now-abolished liquor policy, with the Enforcement Directorate taking him into custody. Subsequently, he was transferred to Tihar jail on Monday and remanded in judicial custody until April 15.
Contrary to concerns raised by AAP, authorities within Tihar jail have asserted that Kejriwal’s health remains stable. They noted that his weight has not fluctuated since his arrival at the prison, with his blood sugar levels returning to normalcy. Reports suggest that Kejriwal has been engaging in yoga, meditation, and regular walks within his cell, indicating efforts to maintain his health.
Housed in a 14X8 feet cell in jail number 2 of Tihar jail, Kejriwal’s health has been subject to close monitoring, particularly his blood sugar levels, which reportedly dropped below 50 at one point. Jail officials have equipped him with a sugar sensor and provided necessary medications to manage his condition. Moreover, he receives home-cooked meals for lunch and dinner, with a dedicated quick response team stationed nearby for any emergencies.
Despite his incarceration, Kejriwal managed to communicate with his wife Sunita via video conference and conferred with his lawyer in person. However, the Enforcement Directorate has raised concerns about his cooperation in the ongoing investigation, prompting a Delhi court to extend his judicial custody.
