New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has responded to the recent controversy in the Delhi Assembly regarding the installation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s portrait, asserting that the party never opposed it but took issue with the removal of portraits of key historical figures.

Addressing the media, AAP spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar emphasized that the party respects the Prime Minister’s portrait but questioned why Babasaheb Ambedkar and Shaheed Bhagat Singh’s portraits were removed in the process.

“We have never said that PM Narendra Modi’s portrait should not be installed, but why should Ambedkar, the architect of our Constitution, and Bhagat Singh, our martyr, be ignored? Their portraits should not have been removed to make space for the Prime Minister and President’s portraits,” Kakkar said.

BJP Attacks AAP Over CAG Report, Calls Kejriwal ‘Sharab Ka Dalal’
Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) escalated its attack on AAP following the tabling of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report in the Delhi Assembly. BJP spokesperson Nabendu Bhattacharjee accused the Kejriwal-led party of a ₹2,026 crore excise policy scam and labeled Kejriwal a “sharab ka dalal” (broker of alcohol).

“The real face of AAP is now being exposed. This is not just about corruption, but also about connections with leftist groups involved in past scams in Tripura. The mismanagement of funds must be accounted for, and those responsible will soon be punished,” Bhattacharjee said.
