In a dramatic turn of events preceding the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections in Punjab, AAP MLA from Jalalabad Goldy Kamboj, along with two other party leaders, made startling revelations at a joint press conference held on Wednesday (March 27). The leaders alleged that the BJP had approached them with offers ranging from Rs 20 to 25 crores to abandon AAP and join their ranks.

During the press conference, all three AAP leaders disclosed details about the calls they received from individuals purportedly associated with the BJP, offering them substantial sums of money in exchange for their allegiance. Shockingly, one of the numbers reportedly belonged to an overseas location in Cyprus.

The AAP leaders condemned these attempts by the BJP, citing them as blatant examples of the BJP’s efforts to secure a majority through means other than winning the elections democratically.

The gravity of the situation escalated further with the defection of AAP MP from Jalandhar, Sushil Kumar Rinku, and the party’s MLA from Punjab, Sheetal Angural, who officially joined the BJP in Delhi on the same day. The duo was welcomed into the BJP fold by General Secretary Vinod Tawde and Punjab BJP Chief Sunil Kumar Jakhar.

The defection of AAP’s lone Lok Sabha MP, Sushil Kumar Rinku, dealt a significant blow to the party’s prospects in Punjab. Commenting on the development, Punjab BJP Chief Sunil Jakhar accused AAP of engaging in double standards and stated that the defection reflected poorly on the party’s integrity.

Expressing his rationale for joining the BJP, MP Sushil Kumar Rinku emphasized his commitment to the development of Jalandhar and pledged to bring central government projects to fruition in the region.
