Mumbai: Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray has launched a scathing attack on the Maharashtra government, demanding its dismissal and the imposition of President’s rule, citing the worsening law and order situation in the state.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Thackeray said, “Resignation (of Munde) is not enough. The government should be dismissed and President’s rule should be imposed in the state.” His remarks come in the wake of NCP leader Dhananjay Munde’s resignation as Maharashtra minister after his close aide Walmik Karad was named as the mastermind in the Beed sarpanch murder case.

The brutal killing of Massajog village sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh on December 9 last year—reportedly for resisting an extortion bid—has triggered outrage. Thackeray argued that Munde stepping down does not absolve the state government of its failure to maintain law and order.

He also highlighted recent crimes, including the rape of a 26-year-old woman inside an MSRTC bus in Pune and the horrific incident of a 17-year-old girl being set ablaze in Mumbai.

“Law and order in Maharashtra has been deteriorating for the last three years. If the government is not dismissed, who will invest in the state? How will citizens feel safe?” Thackeray questioned.
