Mumbai: NCP (SP) leader and Lok Sabha MP Supriya Sule has taken strong exception to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s recent remark describing India’s military action against Pakistan as a “Chhutput Yudh” (small war), asserting that no war against terrorism can be considered small.

Responding firmly, Sule said, “A war is a war — whether big or small. And this war was against terrorism. During the all-party meeting, we had collectively agreed not to politicise this issue or speak against each other in this sensitive moment.”

Sule also praised the Indian Armed Forces for Operation Sindoor, which was launched in retaliation to the brutal Pahalgam terror attack that claimed the lives of 26 civilians on April 22. “I give Operation Sindoor not just 100 out of 100, but 1000 out of 100 marks. Our armed forces deserve the highest praise,” she stated.

Kharge had made the controversial comment during a public rally in Hosapete, Karnataka, while celebrating the Congress government’s two-year anniversary. “More or less the Chhutput Yudh that has happened, or our conflict against Pakistan… our country will never tolerate such things. We are united,” Kharge said, drawing criticism from several political quarters.

The BJP also condemned Kharge’s statement. Karnataka BJP president BY Vijayendra called it “irresponsible” and “an insult to the bravery of the country’s armed forces,” urging Kharge not to belittle the sacrifices made by soldiers.

India’s Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7, marked a bold response to cross-border terrorism. The operation involved targeted drone and missile strikes on terrorist infrastructure inside Pakistan. Pakistan attempted to retaliate on May 8, 9, and 10, but was met with a fierce counter-offensive from the Indian military. The high-intensity conflict reportedly forced Pakistan to seek a ceasefire, which was agreed upon following a conversation between the DGMOs of both nations.
