A veteran blogger and journalist conspired to kill Sharad Pawar? legal eagles and police beg to differ

Mumbai: The sensational claims that a veteran journalist and two others are conspiring to assassinate veteran leader and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar have fallen flat on the face. The Pune police that was investigating the complaint has decided to close it, as the legal advisors have opined against pursuing it further.

The sensational complaint by supporters of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar, that veteran journalist and blogger Ganesh (Bhau) Torsekar along with journalist and publisher Ghanshyam Patil and Akshay Bikkad who runs a YouTube channel The Postman were conspiring to kill Pawar.

The complaint was based on a comment of a viewer on one of the video blogs by Bhau Torsekar, which was interpreted by complainant Laxmikant Khabia, as threat to kill Pawar.

After the Pune police accepted the complaint, it made to headlines in no time and created sensation across the state. The NCP leaders too had expressed that police must investigate the matter and bring out the truth.

As fallout of the complaint, NCP party workers threatened to teach Bhau Torsekar, a lesson by breaking his hands and legs. “I am not afraid of anyone. If Pawar feels so insecure by what I write and say, then it is beyond comprehension. If his supporters want to assault me, I am ready to face them.  Pawar should tell me the time and place,” said Torsekar while reacting to the threats.

However, reliable sources in Pune police said that the legal advice on the complaint was adverse as it did not hold any merit to stand in the Court of Law. “The complaint was based on assumptions. It was nothing but an attempt to appease one’s leader. The complainant is close supporter of Sharad Pawar. The one who threatened to assault Bhau Torsekar is office bearer of NCP. Given the nature of complaint and circumstantial evidences, we have decided to close it.”

“I knew it since beginning. After the news came in media, many senior lawyers called me and said that the complaint was laughable and did not hold any merit,” Torsekar said.
