Yesterday, the Bombay High Court made an observation that if COVID cases in Pune are rising, then the government should think of imposing a lockdown in Pune. Following this, a meeting was convened under the chairmanship of Mr Pawar at the Divisional Commissioner’s Office in Pune to review Coronavirus situation and measures in the district. After the meeting, the Deputy Chief Minister said the number of patients has increased only in rural areas of Pune while there is decline in number of cases in the city. He said, instructions have been given to tighten restrictions in Pune.

During the meeting discussions were held on availability of vaccine, oxygen, beds, supply of Remedisivir drug, oxygen audit and fire audit. He directed the health department to be vigilant considering the possibility of a ‘third wave’ of Corona and also instructed all government agencies to plan carefully to ensure that medical services are not inadequate for children during the third wave of COVID-19 pandemic.

Mr Pawar said the state government is taking all efforts to expedite the immunization drive. However, he said there is a shortage of vaccines. He further said vaccination process will be smooth when enough vaccines are available. He informed that oxygen plants have been started at some places including at Sassoon hospital in Pune. He also directed to take action against the hospitals which are found involved in black marketing of Remdesivir. Besides, strict action will also be taken against those hospitals which are found withholding dead bodies for payment of bills. He appealed to citizens to cooperate with the administration by following the COVID related guidelines.
