BMC is generous towards fashion designer Manish Malhotra; but Kangana takes the hammer blow

Mumbai: In a tale of contrasting actions on similar nature of issue, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) issued a notice to noted fashion designer Manish Malhotra for illegal civil works at his office address in the same suburban Bandra. The notice was similar to the one served on Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut, except for the fact that Malhotra was given seven days’ time to respond, whereas Kangana Ranaut was given barely 24 hours, which has raised several eyebrows.  

Documents in possession with thenews21 reveal that the BMC has issued a similar notice to noted fashion designer, Manish Malhotra at his office address at first floor, bungalow 6, Nargis Dutt Road, Pali Hill, Bandar west on Monday. A similar notice was issued to Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut.

But the question arises why BMC has given enough time to Malhotra to respond, while the BMC was not so kind towards Ranaut as it swiftly demolished her office in a hurry.  BMC has given Manish Malhotra seven days to produce the relevant documents with his written statement.

In the notice, BMC has said that Malhotra has changed the commenced execution of certain works without taking permission from BMC.

The letter further states that the below mentioned changes were made to the structure.

SCHEDULE:

1) Unauthorized change of user from residential to commercial office on first floor.

2) Unauthorized addition and alteration by way of erecting partitions/cabins on the first floor.

3) Unauthorized construction of 02 structure with brick masonry wall and A.C sheet roof on second floor terrace admeasuring 4.80m X 3.70m X 2.50m and 3.80m X 3.50m X 2.50m approximately.

4) Unauthorized construction of shed with M.S angles and A.C sheet roof on second floor terrace.

Therefore, the civic authority has issued a notice to Manish Malhotra and asked him to show sufficient cause within seven days and explain why the said building should not be pulled down or restore the unauthorised use to its sanctioned user.

The letter also states that Malhotra is also liable to be prosecuted under section 475 A under Mumbai Municipal Corporation Act, which is punishable with imprisonment and fine.

Now the question arises as to why did the BMC without giving sufficient time to Ranaut razed her office just within 24 hours of issuing the notice and why BMC is being lean on Malhotra.
