Mumbai: In a letter written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the MNS Kamgar Sena has demanded that huge unclaimed amount of Rs 40,000 crore lying with the Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO), and the accruing Rs 4,000 crores interest on this unclaimed amount every year be distributed as an allowance to unemployed workers registered with the EPFO.
Speaking to thenews21 Manoj Chavan Chairman of MNS Kamgar Sena said “I request the Indian Government to distribute this Rs 40,000 crore amount to the unemployed workers.” “During this pandemic condition many workers have lost their job while this huge amount is untouched. The central government should distribute it in such hard times”, he added.
In a letter written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the MNS Kamgar Sena has drawn his attention to the helpless situation of unemployed workers. In this letter MNS claimed India’s unemployment rate is record breaking high at 27.1 % and Maharashtra’s rate is stumped at 20.9%.
The letter also states large companies of various states whether it is media, aviation, retail, hospitality, and automobiles have closed in past months and many small business shops have shut completely. While the entire world is facing the wrath of Coronavirus Indian workers are not any exception to it. Ever since the nationwide lockdown began there have been mass layoffs and heavy job losses.
Employees States Insurance Corporation (ESIC) will implement Atal Bimit Vyakti Kalyan Yojana under which unemployed benefit will be paid to the workers covered under ESI scheme. As per this scheme unemployed workers will get 50% of 90 days average pay as an allowance.
BJP Spokesperson Prakash Gangadhare said “Government will surely take the best decision regarding worker’s issue”.
