Gurugram hit-and-run survivor Sia has spoken publicly for the first time since footage of a car crashing into her motorcycle went viral, directly responding to the driver’s version of events.
The incident took place on Golf Course Road on Sunday morning when Sia was riding with a group of bikers. A white sedan allegedly collided with her bike, sending her onto the road. The incident was recorded by an action camera mounted on her superbike and later spread widely on social media.
The accused, identified as Kalyan Bainsla, has denied deliberately hitting Sia. In an interview, he claimed that a group of more than 20 bikers had been repeatedly changing speeds and slowing down. He also alleged that some bikers pinched him and said he did not know that the rider involved was a woman.
Sia questions why he fled the spot
Responding to Bainsla’s claims in a video shared on Instagram, Sia said his actions after the collision contradicted his claim that he felt concerned about her.
“If he really felt bad for me, he would have stopped and helped me instead of fleeing the spot,” Sia said.
She added that the explanation offered by the accused did not match what she believed was visible in the videos.
“Such a sympathy-seeking character does not suit him at all,” she said.
‘He saw me and asked me to stop’
Sia also rejected Bainsla’s claim that he did not realise the rider was a woman.
“This is absolutely untrue. He noticed my plaited hair from behind. He saw that, chased me, asked me to stop the car and then acted accordingly,” she said.
She further argued that even if Bainsla believed the bikers were repeatedly changing their speed, that did not justify continuing to chase her along the road.
Sia says videos show the collision
Bainsla has questioned whether the viral CCTV footage provides the complete sequence of events and has also questioned why only two videos were released.
Sia countered that the available footage clearly captures the collision and the car leaving the scene.
“In a hit-and-run case, how are two videos not enough?” she said, pointing to footage that she said showed the car moving across lanes before hitting her motorcycle.
According to Sia, another video from the front also captures the vehicle changing lanes and striking her bike.
She said she was thrown from the motorcycle and dragged beneath the car during the incident. Sia added that a slight difference in timing could have resulted in much more serious injuries.
“I could have died on the spot,” she said.
Police register FIR
The incident occurred on Gurugram’s Golf Course Road while Sia was riding with fellow bikers. Gurugram Police took suo motu cognisance of the incident and registered an FIR against an unidentified person.
Bainsla has not been arrested so far.
Sia said the incident has also raised concerns about the safety of women travelling on roads in Gurugram and Delhi, particularly after the footage of the crash circulated widely online.
