A woman police Sub-Inspector was allegedly assaulted by the daughter of a sitting BJP MLA during a security deployment at a temple in Karnataka’s Mandya district. A video showing the incident has circulated widely on social media, leading to criticism and demands for action.
The incident took place on August 12 at the Arathi Ukkada temple, where Sub-Inspector Savitha B was assigned security duty during Bhima Amavasya.
According to the complaint, an argument broke out after Aishwarya, daughter of Tumakuru Rural BJP MLA B Suresh Gowda, allegedly objected to a delay in allowing her to have darshan.
Aishwarya, who is married to ACP Gautham, allegedly abused and slapped the police officer during the argument.
Video Of Temple Incident Goes Viral
The video appears to show Aishwarya slapping the Sub-Inspector on the head. The police officer then appears to slap Aishwarya on the shoulder as other policemen and people nearby try to intervene.
Police have registered an FIR against Aishwarya under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The charges include allegedly assaulting or using criminal force against a public servant, causing hurt, intentional insult and criminal intimidation.
Counter-Complaint Also Filed
Mandya Superintendent of Police Mallikarjun Baladandi said Aishwarya has also filed a counter-complaint against the police officer.
In her complaint, Aishwarya has alleged that the Sub-Inspector abused her.
Police said both complaints are being investigated.
The incident has led to a strong reaction on social media, with several users questioning whether political connections could influence police action.
One user wrote on X: “Power shouldn’t mean immunity.”
Another questioned whether the police officer could face action instead, writing:“I am sure the lady Sub-Inspector will be suspended or given a show-cause notice soon and will be made to apologise to the MLA’s daughter and MLA.”
Another social media user questioned whether the law would be applied equally, saying: “Surely the rules don’t change for a politician’s daughter”.
The allegations and counter-allegations are currently being investigated by the police.
