The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has announced a peaceful protest march in New Delhi on September 5, accusing the Central government of not fulfilling promises made to young people.
The decision was taken during a meeting of the party’s national working committee on Monday, August 24. The group said it reviewed the government’s actions after nationwide youth protests were called off following commitments made on July 25.
Protest To Begin From India Gate
According to the CJP, the protest march will start from India Gate and move towards the New Delhi Police Headquarters.
The organisation said the march will be led by families of deceased NEET victims and people who were allegedly affected by police action during the ‘Sansad Chalao’ protest on July 20. Students and young people from different parts of the country are also expected to join the march.
In a statement, the CJP said: “We announce a peaceful protest march from India Gate to the new Delhi Police Headquarters on 5 September, led by the families of the deceased NEET victims and victims of police brutality, and joined by students and young citizens from across the country.”
The group said it decided to return to the streets because it believes the government has failed to keep its promises.
The CJP said: “We have been forced to return to the streets because the Government appears determined to commit a ‘vishwasghaat’ with Gen-Z, the young generation of this country, and the families who have already lost their children.”
CJP Accuses Government Of Delaying Action
The organisation also accused the government of delaying action and avoiding clear commitments on issues discussed earlier.
The CJP claimed that instead of implementing the promises made to the youth, the government had relied on technical issues and delays.
The group said: “Members of the Committee expressed serious doubts over whether the Government intends to honour its word at all. For a month now, instead of implementing what was solemnly promised, the Government has played delay games, hidden behind technicalities, and avoided giving clear commitments even before the Supreme Court of India.”
Dispute Over FIR List
The CJP also raised the issue of FIRs registered against people across the country.
According to the organisation, the Supreme Court had asked the Union government on August 18 to provide a list of FIRs so that the court could consider dealing with them together.
The CJP alleged that the government had not given a clear commitment to provide the list.
The organisation said: “On 18 August, the Supreme Court repeatedly asked the Union Government to provide a list of FIRs registered across the country so that the Court could consider quashing them together, at one go, making the commitment easiest to fulfil. Yet, the Government refused to give a clear commitment to do so. The written assurance from the Government to the CJP is also due.”
The group added: “This cannot continue. Our patience cannot be mistaken for weakness, and our good faith cannot be used as an opportunity for the government to betray us.”
The CJP has said the September 5 march will be peaceful and will bring together students, young citizens and families of those affected by the issues raised by the organisation.
