Project Sanjeevani aims to provide affordable blood tests in remote areas; around 30,000 patients expected to benefit annually
Sindhudurg: Manav Sadhan Vikas Sanstha, founded by former Union Minister Suresh Prabhu, has expanded its healthcare outreach in Sindhudurg with the launch of a Mobile Pathology Van aimed at providing affordable diagnostic services to people in rural and remote areas of the district. The van was launched under Project Sanjeevani — “Ek Themb… Ek Asha” (One Drop… One Hope) at the organisation’s Institute of Health and Education at Anav in Kudal taluka. The organisation has said the initiative is designed to take diagnostic services closer to rural communities.
Kudal MLA Nilesh Rane inaugurated the vehicle by performing the traditional coconut-breaking ceremony and cutting the ribbon. Speaking at the programme, Rane praised Prabhu’s long-standing association with social and developmental initiatives in Konkan and Sindhudurg. He described Prabhu as one of Konkan’s distinguished personalities and assured support for public-oriented initiatives undertaken by the organisation in the region. Rane also referred to Prabhu’s experience in public life and his engagement with economic, trade and international policy issues, saying that despite his national and international responsibilities, Prabhu had continued to remain connected with Konkan.
Affordable Blood Tests for Rural Residents
Under Project Sanjeevani, the Mobile Pathology Van will travel to villages and remote areas of Sindhudurg to provide basic pathology testing closer to residents’ homes. According to the organisation, blood tests will be offered for ₹50, with arrangements being made to reach approximately 30,000 patients annually. If the project receives a strong response, its coverage and beneficiary target could be expanded further. The organisation also plans to extend the initiative to neighbouring Ratnagiri district. Manav Sadhan Vikas Sanstha has publicly described Project Sanjeevani as an initiative to bring mobile diagnostic facilities closer to villages across Sindhudurg.
Uma Prabhu Outlines Organisation’s Work
Uma Prabhu, associated with the organisation’s leadership, delivered the introductory address and explained the objectives of the mobile diagnostic initiative. Rane also appreciated her contribution to the organisation’s social and educational activities. The programme was attended by Zilla Parishad Vice-President Dada Sail, Health and Education Committee Chairman Pritesh Raul, Goa-based entrepreneur Anil Khawte, Dr G.T. Rane, pathologist Sanjay Sawant, former Ratnagiri Zilla Parishad president Mohan Bane, local representatives, trustees, villagers, nursing students and staff.
Sports Academy Proposed for Kudal
Rane also said efforts were underway to establish a Krida Prabodhini, or sports academy, in the Kudal MIDC area. He said assistance from Prabhu would be sought for the proposed project and appealed to him to continue supporting development initiatives in Sindhudurg and the wider Konkan region. The Mobile Pathology Van adds a diagnostic component to the organisation’s existing healthcare and educational work in Sindhudurg, with the focus on making basic medical testing more accessible to residents who may otherwise have to travel considerable distances for such services.
