Assam is gradually returning to normalcy after the recent floods, with schools across the affected areas beginning to resume regular classes, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
The state government has provided financial support to schools damaged by the floods and has also extended assistance to affected students and Anganwadi centres as part of the ongoing relief and rehabilitation efforts.
₹15.86 Crore Released For School Repairs
According to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the government has provided ₹2 lakh each to 793 schools for repair and restoration work. The total assistance released for the repairs stands at ₹15.86 crore.
Sarma said regular teaching has already resumed in around 90 per cent of the affected schools, while efforts are underway to restore the remaining institutions.
“The state government has given Rs 2 lakh each to 793 schools for repairing, totaling Rs 15.86 crore, and regular teaching has started in around 90 percent of schools,” Sarma said.
Remaining Schools Expected To Reopen After August 15
The Chief Minister said the Education Department has informed the state government that the remaining schools are expected to reopen after August 15.
To ensure that students do not face further disruption in their studies, the Education Department has also supplied free textbooks to the affected schools.
Financial Aid Reaches Flood-Affected Students
The state government has also provided one-time financial assistance to students affected by the floods through the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
Sarma said students have received assistance of ₹1,000, ₹3,000 and ₹5,000, depending on the applicable category of support.
The Chief Minister said the government was continuing to provide assistance to people and institutions affected by the floods.
Anganwadi Centres Also Receive Assistance
Financial assistance has also been released to flood-affected Anganwadi centres, with the government seeking to restore essential services for children and families in affected areas.
The measures are part of Assam’s broader flood recovery efforts, with the government focusing on restoring schools, supporting students and bringing essential community services back to normal.
