Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the 57th Convocation Ceremony of IIT Delhi on Saturday, congratulating graduating students and urging them to remain committed to continuous learning as technology, industries and global dynamics rapidly evolve.
During the ceremony, PM Modi presented several prestigious medals to meritorious students and also inaugurated Param Pragya, an AI-powered high-performance supercomputing facility at IIT Delhi’s Sonipat campus.
PM Modi Highlights Importance of Women Among Medal Winners
While congratulating the students who received medals, PM Modi drew attention to the representation of women among the awardees.
“Today, several students have received medals for their achievements. I congratulate all of you very much for this. But it would have been even better if there were one or two more daughters [female students] among them… Actual situation, you know!” he said.
The Prime Minister also recalled attending an earlier IIT Delhi convocation virtually during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The last time I attended this convocation, the entire country was going through the period of COVID. Back then, I had joined virtually, but today, I am present here among all you young friends and that is why I am feeling very good,” Modi said.
‘The One Who Learns Will Win’: PM Modi’s Message to Graduates
Addressing the graduating students, Modi said they were entering professional life at a time when technological developments and global power equations were changing at a rapid pace.
“The world will change, technology will change, industries will change, professions will change, but amid all of this, remember my words—the one who learns will win,” he said.
He urged students to remain adaptable and continue acquiring new skills throughout their careers rather than relying only on what they had learned at the institute.
PM Modi Says Young Generation Has National Responsibility
The Prime Minister also spoke about the responsibilities awaiting the graduating students over the next several decades.
He said every generation faces different challenges and has a distinct responsibility towards the nation. Referring to India’s journey towards becoming a developed country, Modi encouraged the students to consider how their professional decisions could contribute to the country’s larger goals.
He said the choices made by today’s graduates during the next 30 to 35 years could play an important role in shaping India’s future.
Param Pragya AI Supercomputing Facility Inaugurated
During his visit, PM Modi inaugurated Param Pragya, an AI-powered high-performance computing facility at IIT Delhi’s Sonipat campus.
The facility is expected to strengthen India’s research and computational capabilities, particularly in areas requiring advanced computing and artificial intelligence.
PM Modi Connects With Students About Their Future
The Prime Minister also spoke about the uncertainty and excitement that accompanies graduation. He noted that students could be thinking about their first job, salary, moving to another city, launching a startup or preparing for another competitive examination.
He said that although every student may have a different ambition, the convocation marks the beginning of an important new phase in their lives.
Prahlad Joshi Praises India’s Higher Education Expansion
Union Education Minister Prahlad Joshi also addressed the ceremony and credited the government’s education policies with making India’s higher education ecosystem more focused on research and innovation.
“Pradhan Mantri ji has always reposed immense faith in the potential of India’s youth and regards them as the foremost architect of Viksit Bharat 2047,” Joshi said.
Joshi said more than 4.5 crore students are currently enrolled in higher education across India. He also highlighted the expansion of universities, colleges and premier institutions since 2014.
The ceremony marked an important milestone for IIT Delhi’s graduating students as they prepare to enter professional and research careers amid rapid technological change.
