Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday unveiled The Governance Challenge (TGC) 2026, inviting students from the country’s premier business schools and public policy institutions to contribute innovative ideas that can help transform Maharashtra into a global innovation hub.
Announcing the initiative on social media platform X, the Chief Minister called upon young talent to participate in solving real-world governance challenges through practical and implementable policy solutions.
Fadnavis said, “Inviting bright young minds from India’s leading business schools and public policy institutions to develop bold, implementable solutions that can strengthen Maharashtra’s innovation ecosystem and transform the state into a leading innovation hub.”
Competition Focuses On Maharashtra’s Innovation Vision
The Governance Challenge, organised by Samagra in collaboration with the Maharashtra government, has emerged as India’s first governance-centric competition designed specifically for leading management and public policy institutions.
Now in its fourth edition, the competition aims to encourage students to propose innovative governance models capable of improving public administration and citizen services.
This year’s central theme asks participants to address a key policy question: “What can the Government of Maharashtra do to make Maharashtra an Innovation Hub by 2035?”
Platform For Practical Governance Solutions
The initiative provides participants with an opportunity to develop solutions for complex governance issues affecting millions of citizens. Officials believe the competition will help bridge academic research and public policy while encouraging fresh ideas for state-led reforms.
The state government expects students from 36 premier institutions across India to participate in this edition.
Focus On Technology-Driven Development
The announcement comes shortly after Fadnavis inaugurated the AI Centre of Competency at Ramdeobaba University in Nagpur, where he highlighted the growing demand for technology-driven skills.
Addressing the event, the Chief Minister said industries today require a highly skilled workforce capable of contributing to an innovation-led economy. He also praised the university’s academic achievements and expressed confidence that it would continue emerging as one of India’s leading educational institutions while supporting Maharashtra’s long-term innovation ambitions.
