Commercial establishments across India received fresh relief on Saturday, August 1, after oil marketing companies announced a reduction of around ₹200 in the price of 19-kg commercial LPG cylinders. The latest revision marks the second consecutive cut in commercial LPG prices following signs of easing tensions in West Asia.
While commercial LPG rates have been reduced, domestic LPG cylinder prices remain unchanged. At the same time, the price of aviation turbine fuel (ATF) has been increased by around ₹5 per litre, taking the fuel price for domestic scheduled airlines to ₹115 per litre.
Commercial LPG Prices Revised in Major Cities
Following the latest revision, the price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder has come down across major metropolitan cities.
In Delhi, the cylinder now costs ₹2,738, reflecting a reduction of ₹192. In Mumbai, commercial LPG prices have been cut by ₹194, bringing the new rate to ₹2,691.50 per cylinder.
In Chennai, consumers will now pay ₹2,906 after a ₹200 reduction, while Kolkata recorded the biggest drop among the metros, with prices falling by ₹209 to ₹2,872.50 per cylinder.
5-Kg Free Trade LPG Cylinder Also Gets Cheaper
Oil companies have also reduced the price of the 5-kg Free Trade LPG (FTL) cylinder, which is commonly used by migrant workers and small businesses.
In Delhi, the 5-kg cylinder has become ₹46.50 cheaper and will now retail at ₹762.
Second Consecutive Price Cut Since July
This is the second downward revision in commercial LPG prices in recent weeks. On July 1, oil marketing companies had reduced the price of commercial cylinders by around ₹183.
With the latest revision, the cumulative reduction in the price of 19-kg commercial LPG cylinders has reached nearly ₹380 over two revisions. Similarly, the 5-kg FTL cylinder has witnessed an overall price cut of around ₹60 during the same period.
Earlier this year, commercial LPG prices had witnessed steep increases due to supply concerns linked to the West Asia conflict, with rates rising by nearly ₹1,345 per cylinder across four revisions beginning in March.
ATF Price Hiked Despite LPG Relief
Even as commercial LPG users received relief, airlines are expected to face higher operating costs after the increase in aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices.
Oil companies have raised ATF rates by around ₹5 per litre, taking the price to ₹115 per litre for domestic scheduled carriers.
The latest fuel price revision offers relief to restaurants, hotels and other commercial establishments dependent on LPG, while the increase in jet fuel prices may add to the operating expenses of airlines.
