Bringing glory to Jammu and Kashmir, Mahreen Jan from Handwara has won the gold medal in the Senior Women’s 70 kg Wushu category at the All India Police Games 2026, held in Hyderabad from July 23 to 25.
Representing the Border Security Force (BSF) Sports Team, Mahreen delivered a remarkable performance in her maiden appearance at the prestigious national event. Having joined the BSF Sports Team just six months ago, she showcased exceptional skill, determination, and confidence to secure the gold medal.
Mahreen has already scripted history by becoming the first girl from Handwara in Kupwara district to secure a government job under the Sports Quota. She is also the first female athlete from Kashmir to be selected for a Border Security Force (BSF) Sports Team, marking a major milestone for sports in the region.
Her latest achievement has been widely praised as a reflection of her dedication, discipline, and years of hard work. The victory has brought pride not only to Handwara and Kupwara but to the entire Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, while highlighting the region’s growing talent in Wushu and other sports.
Expressing her happiness after the victory, Mahreen thanked her coaches, family, mentors, teammates, the BSF Sports Team, the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council, and all her well-wishers for their constant support and encouragement throughout her journey.
The Khelo India Wushu Centre, Handwara, congratulated Mahreen on her historic achievement, describing her success as an inspiration for aspiring athletes across Jammu and Kashmir. The centre also wished her continued success in upcoming national and international Wushu championships.
