Senior IPS Officer Dies at Police Headquarters in Agartala
Tripura Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Dhankar was found dead inside his office chamber at the Police Headquarters in Agartala on Monday, triggering shock across the state’s administrative and law enforcement circles. The senior IPS officer was immediately rushed to Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital, where doctors made prolonged efforts to revive him before declaring him dead.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident. While preliminary information suggests it may be a case of suicide, officials have stated that the cause of death has not yet been confirmed.
Doctors Tried to Revive Him for Nearly an Hour
According to hospital officials, Dhankar was brought to the emergency department at around noon without any detectable vital signs. A medical team immediately initiated cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and continued life-saving efforts for nearly 48 minutes.
Despite extensive attempts by specialists, the officer could not be revived and was declared dead at 12:48 pm.
Post-Mortem to Determine Exact Cause of Death
Doctors said the precise cause of death can only be established after a post-mortem examination. Since the officer arrived at the hospital with no pulse, blood pressure or other vital signs, it was not possible to identify any medical condition or injury at the time of admission.
Medical authorities also stated that any conclusions regarding possible injuries or the manner of death would depend entirely on the findings of the forensic examination.
Police Begin Investigation
Soon after the incident, senior police officials reached the Police Headquarters and secured the area. Investigators have begun collecting evidence and examining the circumstances leading up to Dhankar’s death.
Officials said a detailed probe is underway, while the post-mortem report is expected to play a crucial role in establishing the cause of death. An official statement from the police is awaited.
