Bengaluru to Stay Awake for FIFA Fever! Karnataka Extends Hotel Timings Till 3:30 AM for World Cup Semi-Finals and Final

Football fans in Karnataka have received a major boost ahead of the decisive matches of the FIFA World Cup 2026, with the state government allowing hotels and restaurants in Bengaluru to operate late into the night for live screenings.

The decision was announced by Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, who said hospitality establishments in the city will be permitted to serve customers until 3:30 am on July 14, July 15 and July 19, enabling supporters to watch the FIFA World Cup semi-finals and final without interruption.

Government Approves Extended Timings

The move follows a request from the National Restaurant Association of India (NRAI), which sought relaxed operating hours so football enthusiasts could enjoy the late-night matches at restaurants, cafes and sports bars.

Sharing the announcement on social media, Shivakumar said the FIFA World Cup is one of the world’s biggest sporting celebrations and attracts millions of passionate fans.

He stated, “Football inspires millions across the world, and the FIFA World Cup is a celebration that fans eagerly look forward to.”

Explaining the decision, he added, “Following a request from the National Restaurant Association of India, our government has permitted hotels and restaurants in Bengaluru to extend food service timings from 1.00 am to 3.30 am on July 14, 15 and 19 to facilitate late night match screenings.”

Public Safety Remains the Priority

While announcing the relaxation, Shivakumar stressed that the extension has been granted without compromising public safety or law and order.

He said, “This decision has been taken while ensuring that public safety, law and order, and the convenience of citizens remain our highest priorities. I urge everyone to enjoy the matches responsibly and extend full cooperation to the authorities.”

Authorities are expected to monitor public spaces and hospitality establishments during the extended operating hours to ensure smooth management and compliance with safety norms.

FIFA World Cup Reaches Crucial Stage

The announcement comes as the FIFA World Cup 2026 enters its most exciting phase. The tournament’s first semi-final will see France face Spain, with the winner securing a place in the championship match.
