Scheme Aims to Provide Direct Financial Assistance to Economically Weaker Women
The Delhi government is preparing to roll out the Mahila Samriddhi Yojana, a welfare scheme that will provide eligible women from economically weaker families with ₹2,500 every month through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). According to sources, the scheme is expected to be launched on August 28, coinciding with Raksha Bandhan, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi likely to inaugurate the programme.
The initiative is being positioned as one of the Delhi government’s key social welfare measures aimed at strengthening financial support for women.
Around 20–22 Lakh Women Expected to Benefit
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said preparations for the scheme are in the final stages. The government has developed an online registration portal and finalised the eligibility framework for beneficiaries.
The Delhi government has earmarked ₹5,110 crore for the scheme in the 2026–27 Budget. Officials estimate that nearly 20 to 22 lakh women across the national capital could receive financial assistance under the programme.
Eligibility Criteria
According to the proposed guidelines, applicants must:
- Be between 21 and 60 years of age.
- Be a resident of Delhi.
- Belong to a family with an annual income of ₹2.5 lakh to ₹3 lakh.
- Women holding ration cards may receive priority during the selection process.
Who Will Not Qualify?
The proposed scheme will exclude:
- Women employed in government services.
- Income tax payers.
- Women already receiving a government pension.
- Women who own a car.
Online Registration Process
Applications for the Mahila Samriddhi Yojana will be accepted only through the online portal. Applicants will be required to submit details including:
- Aadhaar card.
- Name, date of birth and gender.
- Parent’s details.
- Marital status.
- Mobile number and email address.
- Duration of residence in Delhi.
- Aadhaar-linked bank account information.
- Self-declaration form.
The government is expected to announce further operational details, including the registration schedule and official portal, at the time of the scheme’s launch.
