Bhupesh Baghel Says Organisational Reshuffle Will Remain in Place
The Congress leadership has reportedly ruled out any changes to the recent organisational overhaul in Punjab, signalling that the restructuring approved by the party will remain unchanged despite growing discontent within the state unit.
According to sources, senior Congress leader and Punjab in-charge Bhupesh Baghel conveyed the message during separate meetings with district presidents, MLAs and former legislators in Chandigarh. He is learnt to have told party functionaries that the decisions taken by the high command are final and will not be revisited.
Raja Warring to Continue as Punjab Congress Chief
Sources said Baghel reaffirmed that Amarinder Singh Raja Warring will continue to head the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC). He also reportedly instructed leaders appointed to various party committees to discharge their responsibilities within the existing organisational structure.
The clarification comes amid speculation over leadership changes following the party’s recent restructuring exercise.
Ashok Gehlot Calls for Unity
Earlier, senior Congress leader Ashok Gehlot expressed confidence that differences within the Punjab Congress would be resolved through discussions with the party’s central leadership.
He said the high command is aware of the concerns raised by leaders and expects the party to contest future elections as a united organisation. Gehlot also expressed optimism that the Congress would strengthen its prospects in Punjab by resolving internal issues.
Channi Yet to Meet Punjab In-Charge
Meanwhile, former Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi has not yet met Baghel during the ongoing consultations in Chandigarh, despite reports linking him to the state party’s leadership debate.
Responding to questions on the issue, Raja Warring said Baghel has already met most committee heads and added that meetings with Channi, who heads the Congress campaign committee, and Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, chairperson of the party’s core committee, are expected to take place in the coming days.
The consultations are part of the Congress leadership’s efforts to address internal concerns and prepare the organisation for upcoming political challenges in Punjab.
