Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde continued to expand the political footprint of the Shiv Sena on Wednesday with the induction of Independent Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) Kiran Sarnaik into the party. The move is being viewed as another significant gain for the ruling Shiv Sena as it continues to attract leaders from across the state’s political spectrum.
Sarnaik, who represents the Amravati Teachers’ Constituency in the Maharashtra Legislative Council, formally joined the party in the presence of senior Shiv Sena leaders.
Shinde Welcomes Sarnaik Into Shiv Sena
After the induction ceremony, Eknath Shinde said Kiran Sarnaik had been associated with him on several public issues over the years and had now decided to officially become part of the Shiv Sena.
According to Shinde, the decision reflects growing confidence among public representatives in the party’s leadership and its development-oriented agenda in Maharashtra.
Entry Coincides With Major Political Developments
Sarnaik’s induction came on the same day that Sachin Ahir, an MLC from the Shiv Sena (UBT), was elected unopposed as the Deputy Chairman of the Maharashtra Legislative Council as the Mahayuti alliance’s candidate.
The day’s developments have added fresh momentum to the ruling alliance, which has been actively working to strengthen its influence in the state legislature.
Shiv Sena Continues Expansion Drive
The Shinde-led Shiv Sena has witnessed a series of political additions in recent weeks as part of its efforts to widen its organisational base ahead of future elections.
Last month, six Members of Parliament formerly associated with the Shiv Sena (UBT) shifted to the Shinde camp, while Gokul Gite, who won the Nashik Local Authorities Legislative Council election as a BJP rebel, also joined the party as an associate member.
These additions have significantly enhanced the party’s strength and reinforced its position within the ruling Mahayuti alliance.
Political Significance Of The Move
Kiran Sarnaik’s entry is expected to further strengthen the Shiv Sena’s presence in the Legislative Council while highlighting Eknath Shinde’s continuing strategy of bringing experienced political leaders into the party fold.
Political observers believe the latest induction reflects the changing equations in Maharashtra politics, where the ruling alliance continues to consolidate its position through strategic political realignments.
With several prominent leaders joining the party in recent months, the Shinde-led Shiv Sena appears focused on expanding its organisational network and strengthening its prospects ahead of upcoming political contests.
