Former India captain Rohit Sharma added another prestigious honour to his remarkable career after receiving the Padma Shri, one of India’s highest civilian awards, from Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Tuesday.
The occasion became even more memorable as it coincided with a landmark moment in Rohit’s cricket journey. The batting star was honoured exactly 19 years after making his international debut for India against Ireland on June 23, 2007, transforming the date into a symbol of both his beginning and his achievements.
Accompanied by his wife, Ritika Sajdeh, Rohit attended the investiture ceremony after missing an earlier event due to prior commitments. Dressed in a black suit, the former India skipper was seen greeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi before receiving the award from President Murmu.
Over the past two decades, Rohit has built a legacy as one of the finest white-ball batters in cricket history. Under his leadership, India lifted the ICC T20 World Cup in 2024 and followed it with the Champions Trophy triumph in 2025, further cementing his reputation as a successful captain.
The Mumbai-born opener also holds several batting records, including being the only cricketer to score three double centuries in One-Day Internationals and owning the highest individual ODI score of 264.
The Padma Shri recognition adds another chapter to Rohit’s illustrious career, celebrating not only his remarkable records but also his contribution to Indian cricket as a leader and an inspiration for millions of fans across the country.
