Begusarai Gang-Rape Case Sparks Action as Station House Officer Suspended Over Alleged Police Negligence

Police Officer Suspended After Public Outrage

A Station House Officer in Bihar’s Begusarai district has been suspended following widespread outrage over the alleged gang-rape and brutal assault of a 30-year-old woman. Senior police officials took action after accusations of delay and negligence in handling the case surfaced.

Deputy Inspector General Shailesh Kumar ordered the suspension, citing serious lapses in the initial response by local police. An FIR was registered on June 13, two days after the incident, but authorities have been accused of failing to act promptly.

Survivor Alleges Brutal Assault

According to the survivor’s complaint, the incident occurred on the night of June 11 when she stepped out of her home. She alleged that five men intercepted her, overpowered her, and forcibly took her to a secluded area.

She further stated that her hands and feet were tied before she was subjected to sexual assault. In her complaint, she also alleged that the attackers inflicted injuries using a sharp object before leaving her in a severely injured state.

Medical Findings Raise Serious Concerns

The woman was initially treated at a local hospital and discharged on June 12. However, her condition worsened, leading her to return for further treatment on June 17.

During medical examination, doctors reportedly recovered a cartridge-like object, a stone, and a piece of wood from her body, according to hospital and police officials.

SIT Formed, Investigation Underway

DIG Shailesh Kumar confirmed that a medical board examination has been conducted and an FIR has been registered. He said, “A special investigation team has been formed to arrest the accused.” Authorities are currently awaiting the final medical report.

Family Alleges Prior Attack and Police Inaction

The survivor’s husband claimed he was locked inside a room during the attack and could not intervene. He alleged that all five attackers were from the same village.

The family has identified three accused individuals, while two remain unknown. They further alleged that the same group had previously attempted an assault in March, but no effective preventive action was taken despite a police complaint being filed.
