The simmering feud between the DMK and Congress has erupted into a full-blown political battle, with the Tamil Nadu ruling party launching one of its sharpest attacks yet on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and his role within the opposition alliance.
In a strongly worded editorial published in Murasoli, the DMK’s official mouthpiece, the party questioned Rahul Gandhi’s credibility on coalition politics and accused Congress of contributing to the very divisions now troubling the INDIA bloc.
The controversy was triggered by Gandhi’s remarks at a recent opposition meeting, where he said Congress must absorb criticism from allies just as Lord Shiva consumed poison for the greater good. Turning the analogy against him, the DMK argued that while Shiva drank the poison, he did not create it.
Using the same comparison, the editorial suggested that Congress itself had played a major role in creating discord among opposition parties and said the party’s recent calls for unity came only after tensions within the alliance had already deepened.
The publication also revived old disputes between Congress and Left parties in Kerala, pointing to past remarks by Rahul Gandhi that had drawn criticism from Communist leaders. According to the DMK, repeated clashes with allies have weakened trust within the opposition camp.
The latest attack comes amid worsening relations between the DMK and Congress in Tamil Nadu. After contesting the 2026 Assembly elections alongside the DMK, Congress later switched sides and joined Vijay’s TVK-led government, a move that angered the ruling party.
Escalating the confrontation further, the DMK’s IT wing accused Congress of abandoning its allies after benefiting from their support and took a direct swipe at Rahul Gandhi on social media.
