Reliance, Meta Partner To Build AI-Enabled Data Centre In Jamnagar

Mumbai:  In a major boost to India’s artificial intelligence infrastructure ambitions, Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) and Meta Platforms Inc. have announced a partnership to develop an AI-enabled hyperscale data centre in Jamnagar, Gujarat, marking Meta’s first built-to-suit data centre project in India.

Under the agreement, Reliance will develop a 168-megawatt data centre facility, scheduled for completion within two years, with provisions for future expansion. Meta will lease capacity from the facility to support its global infrastructure operations and growing AI computing requirements.

The project represents a significant milestone in India’s emergence as a global hub for artificial intelligence infrastructure and strengthens the long-standing strategic relationship between Reliance and Meta, which already spans digital connectivity, commerce and technology initiatives.

Reliance will provide end-to-end services for the facility, including design, construction, utility management, renewable power supply, network connectivity and managed operational services. The company said the arrangement positions it as a comprehensive solutions provider for hyperscale AI infrastructure projects in India.

According to the companies, Jamnagar offers several strategic advantages for large-scale data centre operations, including access to renewable energy, water availability, proximity to submarine cable landing stations on India’s western coast and connectivity through Jio’s extensive fibre network. The facility will be powered by renewable energy and utilise desalinated seawater for cooling, reflecting the sustainability commitments of both companies.

Reliance Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh D. Ambani described the partnership as a transformative step for India’s digital infrastructure ecosystem.

“Building India’s first built-to-suit data centre for a global technology leader of Meta’s scale demonstrates India’s readiness to be at the forefront of the global AI revolution,” Ambani said, adding that Jamnagar is expected to emerge as a landmark destination for hyperscale AI computing.

Mark Zuckerberg, Founder and CEO of Meta, said the company was proud to partner with Reliance to build its first AI-enabled data centre in India.

“This world-class facility in Jamnagar will help us scale our AI infrastructure globally while deepening our long-term investment in India’s economy,” Zuckerberg said.

The companies said the initiative aligns with the Government of India’s policy emphasis on positioning data centres as strategic national infrastructure and attracting global investment into AI and digital infrastructure sectors.
