A major security alert was triggered at the headquarters of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation after Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde allegedly received an email threatening an explosive attack on her office chamber and official vehicle.
The threatening message prompted an immediate response from law enforcement agencies, with police, bomb detection teams and security personnel rushing to the civic body’s headquarters to assess the situation and ensure public safety.
Officials said the email contained a warning that explosives would be used to target the Mayor’s cabin as well as her vehicle, leading authorities to activate emergency security protocols.
Following the threat, a comprehensive search operation was carried out across the municipal headquarters. Bomb disposal squads and police teams meticulously inspected various sections of the building while access control and surveillance measures were strengthened.
The incident created concern among civic officials and staff members as security personnel swept the premises to eliminate any potential risk.
Investigators have begun efforts to identify the source of the email. Cybercrime experts have also joined the probe and are examining digital trails to determine whether the message originated from within India or abroad.
