Indian Crew Rescued After Tanker Emergency Near Oman Coast; 24 Seafarers Safe

Indian Authorities Lead Swift Response Following Maritime Crisis

India on Tuesday confirmed that all 24 Indian crew members aboard the tanker MT Marivex have been rescued safely after the vessel encountered a serious emergency off the coast of Oman. The operation involved close coordination between Indian and Omani authorities, ensuring the seafarers were evacuated without injury.

Embassy Activated Emergency Assistance

Providing details of the rescue, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the vessel was operating under the Palau flag when it became disabled near Omani waters.

“A vessel named MT Marivex was disabled near the coast of Oman. We understand that the ship was operating under the Palau flag. There were 24 Indian nationals working on board the ship at the time of the incident,” Jaiswal said.

Following reports of the emergency, the Indian Embassy in Oman immediately established contact with local authorities and maritime agencies to coordinate assistance for the crew.

Joint Rescue Operation Brings Crew to Safety

The rescue mission was carried out through collaboration between Indian maritime agencies, Omani authorities and emergency response teams. Officials said India’s Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre worked alongside its Omani counterparts after distress reports emerged from the tanker.

Rescue visuals showed helicopters conducting evacuation operations from the vessel, airlifting crew members from the ship and transporting them to safety.

All 24 Indian seafarers were successfully evacuated during the operation.

Crew Members Receiving Support in Oman

Indian authorities confirmed that the rescued sailors are safe and continue to receive assistance from diplomatic officials.

“Our citizens are safe, and our embassy remains in touch with them and is looking after their well-being,” Jaiswal said.

The crew members are currently being accommodated on Oman’s Masirah Island while arrangements and formalities for their return to India are completed.

Maritime Incident Raises Regional Security Concerns

The incident occurred in the Gulf of Oman, a strategically important maritime corridor located near the Strait of Hormuz, through which a significant portion of global energy shipments passes every day.

Reports indicate the tanker was involved in a security-related incident before becoming disabled. International agencies are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the event.
