Intelligence-led operation leads to arrests
A coordinated operation by Mumbai’s MIDC Police has resulted in the arrest of seven Bangladeshi nationals suspected of residing in India without valid documentation. The action was carried out after police received specific intelligence regarding the movement of suspected illegal immigrants within the jurisdiction.
The operation was led by the Anti-Terrorism Cell (ATC) attached to the MIDC Police Station, which launched surveillance and monitoring activities before moving in to detain the suspects.
Group allegedly lived in Mumbai for years
Investigators believe the individuals entered India illegally and later settled in Mumbai, where they reportedly lived for several years while engaging in routine employment and daily activities. Authorities suspect the group managed to avoid detection despite residing in the city for an extended period.
Among those detained are four men, two women and a minor. Officials have begun verifying their identities, travel history and the circumstances surrounding their stay in India.
Phone contacts with Bangladesh under scrutiny
During the initial investigation, police reportedly found that the detained individuals had remained in touch with relatives and contacts in Bangladesh through regular phone communication. Investigators are examining these connections as part of the ongoing inquiry.
Authorities are also looking into whether the suspects received assistance in obtaining accommodation, employment or local documentation during their stay.
Verification and legal process underway
Police have initiated procedures to establish the nationality and background of the detained individuals. Further action will depend on document verification and coordination with relevant agencies handling immigration-related matters.
Crackdown comes amid focus on illegal immigration
The arrests come at a time when authorities across India are intensifying efforts to identify foreign nationals residing in the country without legal authorisation. The Centre has repeatedly stated that individuals found staying illegally will be dealt with under existing laws after due verification of nationality.
