Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagendran on Friday downplayed concerns over former state BJP chief K. Annamalai’s resignation, asserting that the party’s organisational strength and ideological foundation remain intact despite the high-profile exit.
Reacting to the development, Nagendran said the BJP is a long-established ideological movement and not a personality-driven organisation. He maintained that Annamalai’s decision to leave the party would have no significant impact on its functioning or future prospects in Tamil Nadu.
The BJP leader also stated that every individual has the democratic right to launch a new political platform and pursue an independent political path. However, he rejected suggestions that Annamalai’s departure could weaken the party in the state.
Addressing allegations that the BJP does not adequately support state rights or regional aspirations, Nagendran dismissed such claims as baseless. He argued that the party has consistently demonstrated respect for Tamil Nadu’s cultural identity and linguistic heritage.
Highlighting the Centre’s efforts, he said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has repeatedly showcased Tamil culture, literature and history on international platforms. Nagendran further noted that initiatives to preserve and recover ancient Tamil inscriptions reflect the government’s commitment to protecting the state’s rich legacy.
