Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on World Environment Day announced a large-scale environmental action plan aimed at reducing pollution, expanding green cover, and improving air quality in the national capital.
Speaking on Thursday, the Chief Minister said the government had earlier proposed the development of 100 Oxygen Parks across Delhi, and work has already begun on 18 “NaMo Oxygen Parks” as part of the initiative.
She said the project is designed to increase green spaces in the city and create cleaner air zones in densely populated areas, especially those affected by high pollution levels.
15 Lakh Trees to Be Planted Across Delhi
Gupta announced that 15 lakh trees will be planted across Delhi this year under a citywide plantation drive. The government will provide saplings and identify plantation sites, while citizens will be encouraged to actively participate in the drive.
She emphasized that public participation will be a key part of the campaign, with residents of Delhi expected to take part in planting activities across neighborhoods, parks, and institutional areas.
Focus on Pollution Control and Dust Reduction
The Chief Minister said the government is preparing a proactive pollution-control strategy to address seasonal air quality issues before they intensify.
As part of this plan, she highlighted road infrastructure upgrades, including “wall-to-wall carpeting” of major roads, aimed at reducing dust emissions—one of the key contributors to Delhi’s air pollution.
She added that the administration will monitor pollution-related measures closely and keep the public informed about progress and upcoming actions.
Environment Day Push for Green Delhi
The announcement came on World Environment Day, with the government positioning the initiative as a long-term environmental transformation plan for the city.
